From the courtroom

In his appeal to the court, the believer stressed that it was faith that helped him to leave bad habits, learn to love his family and take care of his neighbors. He said that he committed a crime more than 20 years ago, but then, under the influence of the Bible, "he learned to show love to people."

Transcript of the court session in the Central District Court of Chita, Zabaykalsky Krai dated 05/12/2022 in the case 1-10/2022 (1-360/2021) on the charges of Sergei Kirilyuk and others. of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Kirilyuk Sergey Nikolaevich: Your Honor, I am against extremism, violence and cruelty. And let me briefly explain why.

In the past, I was, to put it mildly, a bad person: I drank a lot, smoked, brawled, did not respect people — I could be rude even in the store, even on the bus. This lifestyle pushed me to commit a crime, which I committed in 1998 under Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. My life has not been exemplary. I did not provide for my family properly, and it was unpleasant to be with me. I am sure that as a judge you have seen such people in this courtroom more than once or twice.

When I got to know the Bible, my life gradually changed. I became a different person. I gradually stopped smoking, abusing alcohol and using obscenities in my speech. I began to change my views thanks to the commandment of Jesus, which is written in the Bible: "Jesus told him: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind": this is the first and greatest commandment. The second is similar to it: "Love your neighbor as yourself." The whole law and the prophets are based on these two commandments" (Matthew, chapter 22, verses 37-40). I realized that it is necessary to develop love for God. And how to develop it? I began to read and reflect. While reading the Bible, I found an interesting verse that helped me understand that everything around us was created by the power of God. It says: "You are worthy, Lord, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created everything, and everything exists and was created according to Your will" (Revelation, chapter 4, verse 11). Yes, God testifies about himself every day, giving us the sun, air, food, and so on. Even we are created in the image of God, who gives us an outstanding example of selfless love. This means that loving others is part of human nature.

I also learned from the Bible that showing love for others and God makes a person much happier. The Bible says, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts chapter 20, verse 35). Some people believe that to be happy, you need to think about yourself first. For such people, "love your neighbor" has turned into "love yourself." But, according to recent research, those who follow the advice are happier and healthier: "No one seeks his own, but everyone benefits another" (1 Corinthians, chapter 10, verse 24). In other words, we can say this: to seek benefit not for oneself, but for another. After learning this truth, I realized that my family needed me. I realized that I was the head of the family and that I needed to be more responsible, since at that time I already had one son.

Turning to the Bible, I learned that parents have a great responsibility for raising children. And I also saw how to treat my wife. It says, "This is how husbands should love their wives as their bodies: he who loves his wife loves himself" (Ephesians chapter 5, verse 28). And it is also said to wives, "Wives, obey your husbands as the Lord" (Ephesians chapter 5, verse 22). Moreover, there are tips for children: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is what justice requires" (Ephesians chapter 6, verse 1). These principles have helped me keep my family together and make it happier.

Leaving the criminal and wrong path, I asked God for help to lead an honest life. It was very difficult for me. But thanks to my prayers, my God Jehovah showed me that I need to take on any job, even a less prestigious one. I started working hard to provide for my family. During all this time, I worked as a handyman, loader, bricklayer, welder. One day I had to repair the stove, and I remembered how I did it with my father as a child. Gradually, my knowledge in this matter began to enrich, now I am engaged not only in laying stoves, but also fireplaces, etc.

Thanks to God and his laws, we didn't need anything, we always had everything we needed. Moreover, we had the opportunity to help others. I am pleased to know that my family can help someone. As the Bible says: "Whoever stole, do not steal ahead, but rather work, doing useful things with your own hands, so that there is something to give to those in need" (Ephesians, chapter 4, verse 28). I have fulfilled this verse because it is the command of my God.

Looking back, I can say with full confidence that if it were not for the Bible and the love of my God Jehovah for me, I would hardly have become a worthy husband and father to my children. I probably wouldn't be alive anymore. Or I would be put on trial for committing crimes related to robbery, violence and the like. But it was the love of God that prompted me to leave the criminal path and show love and care for my wife and children. I am grateful that my family is with me now. I have learned to show love to people. I'm not aggressive right now.

Why do they want to deprive me of my freedom? According to the case file, for helping sick people by visiting them in hospitals and supporting them, or for not stopping worshipping my God Jehovah. But this is a manifestation of love and care for others and God. This is not extremism. Please note that no one was harmed by my actions.

I am sure that if all people lived according to the principle of the Gospel of Matthew, 5th chapter, 22nd verse: "And I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother in vain is subject to judgment," then there would be no hatred and extremism at all. We probably wouldn't even know such words.

There was no extremism in my words and deeds. Then why am I being judged for this?

I ask you to fully justify and attach this document to the case file.
