From the courtroom

In his address to the court, the believer stressed that extremism is alien to him: "The manifestation of hostility, violence and hatred is incompatible with my views. I respect representatives of other religions and nationalities."

Transcript of the court session in the Vologda City Court dated 09/01/2022 in the case 1-389/2022 on charges of Yuri Vladimirovich Baranov and Nikolai Alexandrovich Stepanov of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Yuri Vladimirovich Baranov: Your Honor! I am a law-abiding citizen and have not engaged in extremist activities. I lead a peaceful lifestyle, respect the law and authority, because I am a religious person.

The manifestation of hostility, violence and hatred is incompatible with my views. I respect representatives of other religions and nationalities. I don't understand why I'm being accused of committing a crime. Obviously, the only reason is faith.

I exercise my constitutional right to believe in Jehovah God and live in accordance with my religious beliefs (Article 28 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation), and this is not a continuation of the activities of the organization, which was banned by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

For almost 30 years now, since 1994, I have been a Jehovah's Witness, and I am glad that I have found the best way in life. I learned from the Bible that the almighty God Jehovah is loving, merciful, and long-suffering. I also learned that with the help of his heavenly Kingdom — the heavenly government headed by Jesus Christ — He would bring order to the earth, because from the very beginning Jehovah wanted only peace for people (Jeremiah 29:11). And He promises to make people truly happy (Revelation 21:4). Who wouldn't want to be happy? I really want to.

Your Honor! I do not agree with the accusation and I do not admit my guilt. I ask you to acquit me. I wish you all good health.
