The last word of the defendant Maya Karpushkina in Khabarovsk

Khabarovsk Territory

Speaking with the last word, the believer told the court that her actions were exclusively peaceful in nature: "By sharing what is written in it [the Bible], I wanted to help people around me become a little better and happier."

Transcript of the court session in the Industrial District Court of Khabarovsk dated 06/20/2024 in the case 1-6/2024 (1-15/2023; 1-216/2022; 1-1031/2021; 1-18/2020; 1-553/2019) on the accusation of Maya Pavlovna Karpushkina and others. of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Karpushkina Maya Pavlovna:

The investigating authorities and the prosecutor's office consider me a criminal. But my God Jehovah does not think so. I am happy that I live in such a time. I am happy that Jehovah gave me such an opportunity to defend his name before the authorities.

God is love, and love based on righteous principles is a gift. Jehovah is its source. He has so much love that he shared it with us: we love God, his son Jesus, our children, all people. This love is seen in selfless, kind deeds. Jehovah loves people very much, all his creations speak about it. He created the Earth — a wonderful home for people, where a person should not just survive, as now, but enjoy life. He didn't do it for himself, but solely for our own good. Moreover, he gave his earthly children a wonderful opportunity to live forever in paradise on earth.

Your Honor, is it possible to forbid love, to make you stop loving God and his word the Bible? No. I came to know Jehovah as a loving Father, Friend, and also learned his wonderful qualities: love and justice. And I want all people to know about it. I have been branded, and the people around me are scared, because they saw me being brought in for a search on November 10, accompanied by seven men.

I met Jehovah's Witnesses in October 1996. At the same time, she began to study the Bible deeply, and found nothing extremist in it. I am a peaceful person, a primary school teacher. There are many of my former students in my village who are already 50 years old. They still love and respect me. And what if they find out that their "first teacher," as they call me, is being judged? And for what? If, as a sign of justice and indignation, they want to learn the Bible, I will be happy to help them with this.

Witness Alabina N. also studied in high school at the school where I worked. We had a good relationship. She started studying the Bible 20 years ago, but then left. No one forced her to continue. A person chooses his own path. Later, she came to my house and asked me to study. But, apparently, she accepted the biblical teachings with her mind, but not with her heart. That's why it happened.

It is appropriate to apply a verse from the Bible, namely from the First Epistle of the Apostle Peter: "It is better to suffer for doing good, if it is God's will, than for doing evil" (1 Peter 3:17). I think that in order for there to be fewer criminals in our country, and throughout the world, there should be more people who apply the advice from the Bible. By sharing what it says, I wanted to help the people around me become a little better and happier. After all, sometimes a person lacks this so much. I ask the court to acquit me.
