 April 9, 2024 Karelia

On April 2, 2024, searches were carried out at seven addresses in Petrozavodsk, including 30-year-old Alexei Timofeev and his wife.  The believer was detained and placed in custody.  A criminal case has been initiated against him under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code (organizing the activities of an extremist organization).

The search of the second family of believers began at 7:25 and continued until 10 am.  It took place in the presence of witnesses and two FSB officers.  The head of the family was forced to the floor and handcuffed.  Electronic devices, flash drives, paper records, bank cards, as well as books by religious scholars about Jehovah's Witnesses were confiscated from the couple.  After this, the man was taken for questioning, first to the FSB, and then to the office of the Investigative Committee.

On March 26, 2024, the criminal case against Alexey Timofeev was opened by the investigator for especially important cases of the Investigative Department for the city of Petrozavodsk of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Karelia, Viktor Petrov.  He petitioned the court to take Timofeev into custody.  On April 3, Judge Ekaterina Kanaeva chose a preventive measure for Alexey in the form of imprisonment in a pre-trial detention center for a period of a month and 24 days until May 25.

Previously, five Jehovah's Witnesses from Petrozavodsk received large fines for their religion.
