Jehovah's Witnesses report receiving hate speech for their beliefs

March 6, 2024

The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, has met with the representative of the European Association of Jehovah's Witnesses, Marc Hansen, and with the spokesman of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Spain, Joan Comas, who denounce the increase in hate speech for religious reasons that, they say, is taking place throughout Europe.

Joan Comas expressed her concern about the increase of false information about Jehovah's Witnesses published in some media in Spain. He points out that this bad practice of the press creates stereotypes that lead to hate crimes.

For his part, the representative of the European Association of Jehovah's Witnesses, Marc Hansen, added that hate speeches against their religion are also growing in Europe and, in many cases, provoke acts of direct violence.

The Member of the Commons called for individual responsibility not to reproduce messages of intolerance towards people for professing a religious belief, for defending a political ideology or for racial reasons.
