On March 21, 2024, Vladimir Fomin, a 44-year-old Jehovah’s Witness with a Group II disability, was sent to a temporary detention facility in Cherkessk. A criminal case has been opened against him under two extremist articles. During the court hearing, he lost consciousness and had to call an ambulance.
A month earlier, on February 21, Vladimir Fomin and his wife were searched. Electronic devices and storage media were confiscated from them.
The believer is charged with participating in the activities of an extremist organization and involving other persons in it. The case was opened by Aslan Shabanov, senior investigator of the Investigative Department for the city of Cherkessk. On March 23, the Cherkessk City Court chose a preventive measure for Fomina in the form of detention.
The reason for initiating a criminal case against Fomin was an episode related to the case of Menchikova, a resident of Cherkessk previously convicted for her faith. Vladimir’s charges were based on conversations about the Bible with a woman, which the investigation considered to be inducement and recruitment into the activities of a banned organization.
