Transcript of the court hearing in the Babushkinsky District Court of Moscow dated March 27, 2023 in case 01-0003/2023 (01-0237/2022) on charges of Vardan Pegatosovich Zakaryan and others of committing a crime under Part 1.1 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Zakaryan Vardan Pegatosovich:
Your Honor, I plead not guilty. I have not committed the crime referred to in Part 1.1 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The right to freedom of religion allows one to talk about God. This right is written down in Article 28 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. I simply exercised my right to freely practice religion for peaceful purposes. My views have nothing to do with extremism, and I have not committed any crimes. All my actions were peaceful and dictated by faith in God and love for other people. I had no goal to sow hatred and enmity. I did not call anyone to violence or other illegal actions. I acted within the framework of freedom of religion, which is guaranteed to all citizens by the Constitution and international legal acts. I ask you to completely justify me.
